DNS and Red Hat 9.0

Hello. I'm a bit confused. I did the default rpm install of "nameserver" ala BIND 9 and it seems like it works. I have several XP workstations and for their DNS server I set it to my 192.168.0.1 Red Hat 9.0 box. It also acts as thier Internet gateway.
My question is is their more I need to do to secure and optimize the DNS server. I haven't set up any config files at all.
Should it work right out of the box or am I missing something?
Any comments are appreciated

Leave the boy be, as you said it's working right out of the box as a cache server, I'm assuming no one can access it except you are internal boxes so you are cool basically.

I wasn't expecting it to be that easy. I think I'll try DHCP next.
