Have an adsl router (Conexant AMX-CA61E) connected to my linux box.
I have tried to use the Virtual Server (port forwarding) option to allow ssh port 22 to reach my server.
It does, but it drops the connection after a while - for reasons that I haven't managed to work out yet - and you cannot get back in
I cannot test my firewall because the adsl router masks my server's iptables 'wall. Because of both of these issues, I would like to switch off routing and just have the linux box doing the firewalling.
What are the implications of using the adsl router's DMZ ?
How does this fit in with dhcp'd address to my linux box ?
Does it mean that ALL ports are forwarded - so going to grc.com (Shields Up!) would give a real picture of what the linux box is actually shielding ?
May seem obvious, but I've always dealt with adsl or cable modems - not routers - so it is new territory for me.
