Disconneted wired connection in Ubuntu live CD 10.10

Dear Members,

I thought to give a try to the new Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition. Everything works smoothly but the internet does not. Infact, it shows 'Wired connection disconnected. you are offline' everytime i try to boot using this cd. The internet works absolutely fine on the windows xp partition. I connect to the internet using a dialer.

after some googling, i tried all available options but none worked. so i am pasting the output of some of the utility commands that may help you guys.

Have you read this?

DialupModemHowtoSetUpDialer

Configuring the dialup connection to your provider

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Di...to/SetUpDialer

vibhorsingh 03-01-2011 11:12 PM

Yes, i tried the 'pppconfig & pon/poff' approach but the wired connection is disabled. So cannot connect to dialer service :((..

Also i tried using the 'DSL' option in the 'edit network connections' but it also did not work.

The network connection works fine on the windows partition though...

vibhorsingh 03-02-2011 12:12 AM

One more thing, I tried Opensuse 11.3 live cd but even using that shows the same result. Hope this may help..is there a problem with the router/switch hardware...suppose the router box is changed, can that also cause the problem??...but i think it will not as internet works fine on windows (same machine)..
