disabling ftp


How would I go about disabling the FTP service or access to it?

Since your using FC2, as root type:

# chkconfig vsftpd off

The above will disable vsftpd from starting at all runlevels

# service vsftpd stop

The above will stop the currently running vsftpd deamon

I probably should have stated this, but it is RedHat AS 2.1 (my servers at work)

When running the first command:

# chkconfig vsftpd off
error reading information on service vsftpd: No such file or directory

and

# service vsftpd stop
vsftpd: unrecognized service
