Unhappy Disabled NIS, now postgresql and mplayer not usable

Last week, my workstation suddenly is unable to access the LAN NIS server. I'll ask about this issue in a separate thread.

I turned off ypbind to bypass the NIS and now my workstation cannot access the localhost postgresql and mplayer no longer works unless logged in as root.

Any help is appreciated. TIA.
