Difficult problem connecting W2k to Linux
Hi,
I have 3 PCs on a LAN, 1 is running MDK 8.2 with iptables and is the Internet gateway for the other 2. Of the other 2 one is W2K Server and one is a Win98 notebook. Both of these can use the Internet without fault. But only the Win 98 notebook can use the services on the Linux box directly ('ping 10.0.0.1', FTP etc). The W2K cannot even ping the gateway successfully.
The iptables refers to the lansubnet as 10.0.0.0/8, the gateway being 10.0.0.1, the Win98 notebook being 10.0.0.5 and the W2K box being 10.0.0.6. Since the iptables script does not distinguish between the 2 windows machines (i.e. they are both in the lan subnet range) I cannot understand how it could be the iptables script that is causing the problem.
I have checked the W2K setup and it does not have any packet filtering on.
Not sure what to do next to find out why th eW2K server PC cannot access the Linuxbox. Any ideas?
Thanks
David
