Different ways to shape traffic

The idea of that thread is to gather together different ways to shape traffic and their pluses and minuses.
One of them is via CBQ/HTB. Plus: flexibility. Minus: difficult configuring.
2. Iptables kernel patch (bytelimit): Easy configuring, but very CPU expensive.
3. Squid delay pools: Plus: ??? Minus: ???
Others?

Btw, when someone tries to download files from web pages, it is done via http, right? Then Squid's features come very handly

yep i always control only port 80 traffic with squid.u can limit only the bandwidth for .exe files, mp3 files etc etc .. and still the normall browsing will be fine.

but if u r in a environment where u cant use any proxy or using squid only for http then u will need any other thing.
