Dial-up/KPPP/GNOME

Hello there.

I have a Lunexant winmodem, but this of course is a linmodem under SuSE 10.0.

When I configure it it gives this nice detailed name "RESQ Lunexant blah blh blah"

And when im done its suddenly modem0, I know little about linux so maybe this is normal, oh well.

Anywho, I cant get linux to connect! KPPP doesnt show the ttyLT0 driver, and I dont like KDE anyway, I would prefer to use GNOME to dial.

When I do use KInternet, which is set up via yask, it just says its unable to use smpppd. smpppd is installed, however. Also, when I hit KPPP it says I dont have permissions for smpppd, well, Im so confused.

I am a self-proclaimed expert at Mac OS 8-9, Windows <all> and PC hardware, but linux im new to <You know how long it takes to download SuSE 10 over dial up!?!?!?!?>

anyway...
:Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy: :Pengy:

I really need help here, if I left out any information that might help you solve my problem, post or e-mail me webmaster@newchapelhill.org

Thanks.

Never download Linux, 1$ per 10MB, so you lost 10$ !
I 'd buy even the version is not the latest but it's brazen to always wanting the latest , when you die, the latest windows will be 1000000000. At that time , your son will say that win10000000 is slow and want 2000000. Better live the past when your uncle say that 16k of mem is huge !!!!!!!!!!!!

Your modem broke.

DOn't thinks its broken, just that linux doesn't hold with winmodems. You'd need a driver to get it to work and not all winmodems can be made to work with the available driver(s). Linuxant offers a test version (will only allow 14kb throughput), but if it works you could consider buying the full version. personally I'd go for an external modem - that's what I did anyway. No setup hassle (automatically detected in most cases), better performance and the difference in price between buying the external modem or the driver isn't worth the trouble (again, as far as I'm concerened).

As I said IN THE POST it is now a Linmodem, its a modem SuSE natively supports this modem as its driver. My question was not how to get SuSE to support my modem, but how to actually dial into the internet in GNOME, it had nothing to do with my modem. And cigarstub, you havent been smoking cigars lately, lets put it that way.... what the HELL are you talking about? $1 per $10MB?and as far as the uncle thing goes... well dude, sobre up before you post, please, nobody can understand you!

Obviously misread... when kppp said you didn't have permission for smppd were you running it as root?
