Dial into modem

I have a server that I need to update, but the location cannot get dsl so I have to use dial-up. Its basically a web based check in program on a two computer lan, linux server to xp. I need to dial into the server and perform some updates on the mysql database. I have searched for a solution but cannont find one. The server is red hat 9.0 with an external us-robotics modem (serial port). Can anyone suggest any websites or basic instructions on how to set up a linux box so I can dial into it? I have one server that was set up by an outside vendor that has this capability but cannot figure it out.

Thank You,
