dhcpcd and dhclient question

Hi.

May be someone has experience with dhcpcd and dhclient. I need them just get network details and write it to appropriate file - for example, dhcpcd-wlan0.info, but don't change any network settings. How to do this?

Thanks for suggestions.

Are you running a dhcpd daemon on your host, are is this a question of using dhclient to lease an address?

Hi.

No, they do not run always. I use them ONLY then it necessary.
I start both of them from xterm, but I don't want to change any network settings, just gather network configuration.

Thanks.

What information are you looking for? If you run your own dhcpd, the network configuration is whatever you choose?!

If you're on a "foreign" network, you can possibly do something like:

ifdown eth0 && dhclient eth0 && ifconfig eth0

...to get the details of your dhcp lease.

Hi,

To: wfh. Thanks for replay, but if you want to help, please read my question.
I know how dhcpcd and dhclient work. But I want them to work differently.

Thanks.
