dhcp3-client won't negotiate with windows dhcp server through cable modem
I'm new to Linux and was wondering if anyone had run
into this problem before. I am running Debian/Woody
with custom kernel 2.4.18. I have both a 3COM 3c905 ethernet card, and a 3COM cable modem. My Linux partition will not
negotiate an IP address from my ISP's DHCP server. On boot up, I get an error similar to this, DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 6.
I've tried using both PUMP and DHCP3-Client with no
luck, but when I reboot into my Windows partition, it
has no problems at all. I have taken the box to work,
and it acquires an IP from their server using both
PUMP and DHCP3-Client when booted into Linux. Can
someone please give me some suggestions on how I might
be able to get one of these dhcp clients to work? I
do know that my ISP is using a Windows DHCP
server. Are there some compatability issues that need
to be worked around? Thanks for any help you can give.
