DHCP Server setup Questions?
I have to setup a DHCP server for my network what would be the best way to do this. Is there a good howto?
What would be a good distro for this (maybe a router distro etc)? I would like to be able to login remotely I would like to be able to bring up a web page Is there a way to setup a DHCP server so it only hands out IPS to certain Computers (MACs) I only have a old p3 that is low on ram |
absolutely any distro within reason can run dhcpd, it's really not a demanding or complicated service to run, and you can certainly restrict it on MAC address etc. you muight like to look at ipcop or smoothwall which are firewall distro's with built in dhcpd instances.

u can prefer light-wheight distros such as slackware. also debian can be good choice.
"man dhcpd" and "man dhcpd.conf" commands will help to cofigure it. u can also google about dhcpd.conf u will find lots of examples. by the way dhcpd will write errors to syslog. good luck. |
