Question DHCP problems after new kernel 2.4.20 (Debian)

I will try and keep this short while providing all relevant info.

Compaq EVO N1020V with Realtek Built-in 8139 NIC.

Installed Debian 3.0 with the 2.4.18 kernel and everything configured fine with access to the Internet via WinXP Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Eth0 has dhcp which gets it IP address fine. The problem starts when I have built a new kernel with 2.4.20 I need this to get, amongst other things, the W200 wireless Lan card working.

The network card works with the new kernel but dhcp doesn’t work. If I manually allocate an IP address like “ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.35” then DNS works but I can’t get to the Internet because the Address Translation doesn’t work unless the ICS has provided the IP address. None of the network configs have changed because if I reboot the older 2.4.18 kernel then hey presto all is well.

Have I missed something in the kernel config?

TIA
Kevin

Lightbulb

To save anybody wasting their time I found the problem by carefully looking at syslog.......should have done that before posting. I didn't build the kernel with CONFIG_FILTER=y. Just did it and this post is from the machine in question now running 2.4.20

Right now to try and get the Wireless card working

Did you ever get your Compaq LAN W200 wireless card working? Thanks.

LOL funny thing is Everyone who has had this problem says that "CONFIG_FILTER=y" fixes teh issue, and yet somehow I stay broken =(

This is with the 2.4.25 kernel.. but really wahts a few "minor" versions
