DHCP client not assigning gateway address

I posted this in the suse forum as well, but since i experienced the same problem in mandriva, I thought I'd post it here also...

[...]

I have a problem when trying to connect to the internet via my speedtouch dsl modem.

My Speedtouch can be set up to "assign the public ip address to local device", which activates DMZ for a selected device. This works fine in windows, but in Linux, I can't get online when I use DHCP. I get the public IP-address alrigth, and it seems as the dns addresses are right as well, but somehow it doesn't assign a gw address. in mandriva 2007 I fixed this by using a different dhcp client (not sure which one, but I changed it from the default client to something else in the list), and then it worked.

Now I'm trying out SLED 10 which has the same issue, but I can't find a way to resolve this issue. It seems as the gw address from my isp depends on which official ip adress I'm assigned, so I can't use a static gw address.

weird ...

I looked around this forum and read a lot of different proposed solutions. One was to run "dhcpcd" manually after acquiring an address from the dhcp server. This seems to work fine on my computer, but that just confirms that there is probably something wrong with the dhclient ... ?

I can do this manually, but then networkmanager stops working as the dhcpcd interferes with its dhclient.

any suggestions?

I don't know what's wrong in Suse and Mandriva's dhclient script because I don't use them. As a workaround for dhclient, you may try to add

Code:
route del default
route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
in dhclient's exit hooks. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your target default gw IP.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help that much, since the gateway depends on the assigned public ip, which may change at any time.

No ideas why the dhclient isn't doing its job?
