Redhat Linux 9.0
NE2000 Compatible ISAPNP Ethernet Adapter (Generic)

I guess this is a networking question as the Hadrware Browser finds the device fine. Basically, I've checked Win for my card spec, I've checked the Redhat Hardware Browser for the device name (it detected it as eth and said it needed the driver 'ne') and I'm attempting to network it with my other win box. However, when I create the new networking device for an Ethernet connection with the correct irq (11) and memory range(02C0-02DF) on attempting to activate, the wizard spews the following (or words to this effect, can't remember entirely):

Error invalid parameter:
/*long_dir*/ne.o irq=11 mem=02C0

Ok, fine, so it doesn't accept the parameters, so I remove them. Then I get this error:

Error device not found:
device /dev/eth was not found

Therein lies my problem. 1, the driver doesn't like my params, 2, the device doesn't want to exist. I've tried using Kudzu but it hangs on updating fstab (yet another long story) and I've tried disabling Plug and Play in my bios with an effort to make it do something about it but this gives me lost interrupts on two /dev/hd*s which I didn't know I had :S Also, if I do an 'ls' on /dev/eth, it says that the file doesn't exist (which the hardware browser seems to disagree with)

Any help would be much appreciated. I apologise if it's in the wrong forum, I can't decide whether it's more a hardware or networking issue

I'm not familar with the Hardware Browser, but do you need to specify a device number (ie eth0)?

The Hardware Browser (Not sure if thats it's actual name but thats it's job - its in the system tools menu on Gnome) just lists all available hardware in each category (HDs, CDs, Network Cards, etc) - it gave the device as being /dev/eth. I choose /dev/eth in the network wiz and it seems to recognize it as a device (gives its spec in the drop down beside it). Obviously it doesn;t carry on recognizing it Does that make my plight any clearer?
