Determining internet speed

Hi

I was wondering if there was any way of determining my internet connection speed. I am on a 96 kbps line through the day but at 9 PM i switch to a 256 kbps connection.

I used wget to download a few things but the speed that wget downloads stuff at is dependent also on the server hosting what I am downloading. So, I don't exactly know what speed my connection is. And I don't trust my ISP so I wish to check if I indeed get 96 kbps through the day and 256 kbps at night.

Is there any way to check this, besides using wget? Hope I am making sense.

Cheers!

Right click in bottom panel
Click Add to Panel
Scroll list to Modem Lights
Double click Modem Lights

Modem Lights will be placed in the pannel. They display the send receive activity (blinking lights), connect time and speed. The left hand button needs to be configured in order to connect or disconnect.

You can also use KPPP (found in Applicatons>Internet) also it has to be configured for you connection
