I have a small Dell PowerEdge 1650 server with Fedora 12 loaded.

We can access the internet, (Google, our home page, Etc.) but can not ping any local or outside IP addressed.

Our internal computers can ping each other but not the server.

No, it is not the server firewall because we also disabled it and still the same results.

Any ideas ?

Hi there,

As you said that you are able to access sites and local computers can ping each other. The only reason that I can think of is ICMP echo packets are getting blocked by your router.

It is not the server firewall that is blocking the ping but router can be if there is a router between the client and the server and client and external websites.

We are using a Motorola wireless router hub provided by AT&T.

There are only 5 users allowed.

I think you are accessing router via web interface. In the router configuration option you have to look for something which says ICMP or ICMP echo request or anything which talks about ICMP.

It would be interesting to know if you are getting "Request timed out" when you try to ping the server and websites or any other message.

Wait, you do not need to select IGMP.

Do you see any option to configure ACL in there and does it says anything about ICMP?

You ARE aware that fedora 12 hit it's end of life 8 months ago .
There currently NO support for it and there will never be any support for it .
fedora 15 is current and 14 and 15 are the only supported versions

fedora 12 will never get any updates or fixes to close any security holes

Yes, I know it is a older version.

But, this really does not help to answer my question which
I'm sure Fedora 12 should not have a ping problem.

Did you find the option to enable ICMP echo request reply in your router.

The only reason that you are not able to ping is because ICMP echo is getting blocked. I am not familiar with Motorola WiFi router so can't help you much on that part.

Called AT&T tech support and they can ping the server from there end.
And I can ping anything on the web from my end.

But still can not ping the LAN and the LAN can not ping the server.

So, yes. It is either the Fedora OS or the Router that is the problem.

Still working on it.

Looking on CL for somebody in San Jose, CA that is knowledgeably in there area.
