dell inspiron 1525 wireless


i just baught this machine
i am a newbie to linux
please bare with me
Can I have a step by step instructions in order to connect to the internet?
i can see the wireless icon with a red exclamation mark on it
and when i point at it, it says "no network connection"
please help
i need to get this going ASAP
i am so happy about linux

Which distro are you running and what wireless card do you have? The various distros have different network configuration tools available and I believe that particular model comes with either the intel wireless pro which is usually easy to set up or a dell wireless card which is more problematic.

i have ubuntu
i think the wireless is working but i just can't get it to pick up my network which is password protected
don't know which wireless security to choose

none
wep 128-bit passphrase
wep 64/128-bit hex
....etc

That's dictated by the router/AP. Log in to that (usually by browser) from a wired PC and check.
Presumably it was you that set it up ...
