Deep Water

OK here goes, I'm trying to install Redhat 8.0 onto my Dell Poweredge 2100/200. The SCSI cd rom wont recongnize the Burnt CD for some reason (not sure why), so in my haste i'm pulling out the guns and doing an FTP install. (sinking quickly)

I have imaged my boot disk, booted the server and up to the stage where i have to ID the divice, 'which driver should i try?' blah blah blah.
i have downloaded the win/linux drivers for the card and placed them onto floppy, select F2 to load driver, place in floppy and nothing. hmmmmm! its a little harder than windows.

Can someone tell me what file extension the install is looking for? or am i looking at it from a windows point of view?
I still have the 'L' plates on so if any one can help, i would be grateful.

thanks

so, wait - ur trying to do a fresh install of RH8, and you cant boot off the cd?
did you select "boot from cd" from your bios settings, did you verify the cd image you downloaded, and did you make sure you burnt the image from your burner?

Yes fresh install of RH8, it will recognize the isolinux loader but thats as far as it goes. The server recognizes the cd in the drive at boot 'A bootable CD-ROM is Detected IN YOUR CD-ROM drive', then is goes on saying isolinux loader, then thats it, stops there.
I ahve checked the cd's and it will load on my XP machine under VMware.
So my next choice was FTP, but when it looks for the driver disk with the drivers for thr realtek card, it says sorry no drivers located.

Hmmmmm!

by checking the cd, i meant a md5check of what you downloaded. i had the same problem as you (it would start to read the cd, and ... ), and it was because of a corrupt image that i had got, and you check it using md5sum. of course, you will see the cd and be able to read its contents in win32.

and i dont know about ftp install on RH.

if you think im rambling and not getting what ur sayin, disregard. :)

I need all the help i can get, so no your not rambling.

Yep, i checked the md5sum its OK, i have ASP linux on the same type of CD and its OK, not sure of the prob. I'll get it in the end.

Cheers
