DAT Tape drive
Hi mates
I have a DAT tape drive on windows 2000 pc and using scheduling i am taking the backup everyday on the same pc now i am converting More Linux machines on to my network and instead of map networking the drive what i wanted to take the backup , i thought let user copies the file directly on to tape drive, first of all is it possible? because in mandrake we can do cd-writing to web? is there a similar toool available for DAT tape drive also regards san |

If your asking if your linux users can directly access the tape drive on the W2K PC I would say the answer is no. You would need to map a user drive on the W2k PC so users can copy files to backup. Then backup the users directories nightly.
If your thinking about moving the tape drive to a linux machine you could do something similar to CDwebwriter but then you would need to rewrite the web java application to use tar instead of cdrecord. You would also need to keep track of which user owns which tape record unless you have one tape for each user. |
Great michaelk
Now i am clear, i will start design for moving my tape drive into linux box. thanks for the timely help regds |
