CUPS+SAMBA: slow printing from windows

Hello

I have just setup a my printer on my linux box (800mhz, 256mb ram) to be shared with my windows desktop and fiance's laptop. Printer is Epson Stylus C64.

It prints fine, and the quality is good.

My problem is that it takes a long time to spool (i guess that is what it is doing). Basically, it stays at this part of the printing:

http://www.iskm.com/screen1.gif

or about 25 seconds, even for a small 2 page Open Office file.

It then proceeds to print just fine.

Has anyone had anything similar? As far as I nkow, the printer is using the printer driver from the local cmputer (ie, the Windows client).

Anyone have any suggestions? I think that if one tried to print a complex image, the client might just freeze up. I'll try!

Solved:

Have got round it by using a URL, like so, instead of the IP for the server.
http://server:631/printers/printername

remember to enable port 631 in firewall.
