Cups, network printer and dummy driver

Hi,

I am sharing a Samsung ML1640 printer via CUPS, and there are Windows clients who access it via http (although I can config smb/cifs if that changes anything).

When they "install network printer" on Windows, OS asks them to select a driver. This particular driver is not included in Windows by default, and the Samsung's packages are full of bloatware.

Linux (both local and network) printing works perfectly well.

Is there a way to share the same printer under an alias, that has a default driver on Windows? Ideally if the server served the driver itself, or the driver was included in Windows XP by default.

Any clues?

Welcome to LinuxQuestions

There are several methods but samba might be the easiest. On windows setup use any Postscript driver, I tend to use HPs but it does not matter. Configure the print command in the share for the actual printer which will use the cups filter and backend.
