Feb 26 19:20:25 knox network: Bringing up interface lo succeeded Feb 26 19:20:26 knox ifup: Delaying eth0 initialization. Feb 26 19:20:26 knox network: Bringing up interface eth0 failed thats the error thats in boot.log help!    |

Is this a laptop?
Are you running this on a laptop? B/c if you are then you need to also configure the kernel for PCMCIA support. PCMCIA is where your ethernets are. Let me know.

Did RedHat's hardware detection work? If so, what module did it use? As root, Type modprobe to load the NIC module. Then do ifup eth0.
Also you may want to get a newer version of RH, it should have better support then the 6.2 version you have. |
Delaying eth0 initialization usually referrs to using DHCP to obtain an IP and if it couldn't get an IP then it would fail be default. Try going into /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and manualy setting the IP for the NIC card and also set BOOTPROTO to none.
mine looks like this: DEVICE=eth0 IPADDR=192.168.168.1 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 BROADCAST=192.168.168.255 ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=none NAME=3c515 (whatever you want) If it doesn't work that way then you have a bigger problem with driver issues or something. |
thanks so much for the help guys, im not at home right now, but once i get back home im gonna try your suggestions. :D
and no its not a laptop. its an old p100. |
do i need kernal sources to get my card working? cuz a friend told me that i dont have kernal sources and thats probably why its not working...HELP!

first what NIC card do you have. If it is a PCI card then it is prob known by linux if not then you may have to get the drivers for it to work.
to make it work you type in insmod drivername you also need to add a line to /etc/modules.conf it should look like this: alias eth0 drivername after you have done that then you should create the other file I mentioned with the appropriate stuff in it and it should work. goodluck |
