Copying /var/named files from Fedora 7 to Fedora 11 does not configure bind

host A: Fedora 7 has bind 9.4.2
host B: Fedora 11 has bind 9.6.1
I want to migrate my bind configuration from A to B

I've read the release notes and man pages and I can't see why copying
/etc/named*
and
/var/named/*
I checked /etc/sysconfig/named too...

Seems to have no effect on my brand new install on Fedora 11. Host B stays basically un-configured.

Ok, so I's something simple and obvious but I can't see it. What am I missing?

Is there a better/simpler way to migrate a named server from A to B?

TY

What is the error you get? Could be a permissions problem in the new server. Check the log files to see if you find something useful.

If you want to migrate bind to another box, you can configure the new box as a slave for all the zones the old box is authoritative for and after the zones are transferred change the configuration to make it master.
Or you can manually transfer the zones from the old box using dig:
Code:
dig domain.com @old.box axfr > domain.db
But you have to edit the zone file domain.db, to add a $TTL at the beginning, format the SOA record at the 1st line (because it's written in on line) and delete the 2nd SOA at the end of the file.

Solved

For the record,
It turns out the FC7 system had bind installed as chroot, and the F11 was not. So all the configs were in different places.

However, installing bind-chroot on F11 did not automatically configure it to pick up the correct configs.
