Continually loosing network connection...

Running Debian GNU / Linux 5.0.4 on an older Gateway tower.

Have been using this for a year now but it seemed lately that the browser was loading pages slowly. I checked the Network Icon and every time I check it indicates "disconnected" then refreshes and indicates connected. The log makes references to redat, which my machine has nothing to do with?

I checked the system logs and get the following repeated messages:

Mar 29 11:16:15 debianMarkDesk dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth0 for sub-path eth0.dbus.get.host_name
Mar 29 11:16:15 debianMarkDesk dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth0 for sub-path eth0.dbus.get.domain_name

Hi,,

I'm not a debian user. But I faced such issues & they mostly turned up to be the network card issue. So if possible just try out with another NIC.
Or if not atleast try an updated driver for the current NIC.

NO...... not that the existing driver suddenly stopped working.I just expect the new driver to rewrite conf files & related Libs.... so as to rule out any possible errors in Software part.

Thanks!

For the moment I forced my IP to remain static and it seems to be working more reliable. But the NIC may be done.

Then conf files could have been changed from the many upgrades that are issued, who knows.
