Constantly dumped from IRC channels

I am using a wireless connection, which is rated 100% signal strength on NetworkManager, and is fine when using web browsers with little to no interruption to the signal.

But whichever IRC client I use (Xchat, pidgin, Konversation) or whichever server i connect to I always lose signal every minute or so with a message along the lines of "no reply from server..."

I then have to re-join channels, login again etc, which basically makes IRC unusable.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Can you please, provide a ping output to your chat server, command will be like:
ping <chat server>

No more then 10 lines.
Thanks.

Sure, here goes -

[spoovy@peony ~]$ ping chat.freenode.net
PING chat.freenode.net (140.211.166.3) 56(84) bytes of data.
From corv-car3-gw.nero.net (207.98.64.180) icmp_seq=1 Packet filtered
From corv-car3-gw.nero.net (207.98.64.180) icmp_seq=2 Packet filtered
From corv-car3-gw.nero.net (207.98.64.180) icmp_seq=3 Packet filtered
From corv-car3-gw.nero.net (207.98.64.180) icmp_seq=4 Packet filtered

[6]+ Stopped ping chat.freenode.net

Never seen that 'packet filtered' thing before. Is this the culprit?

What do you think?

Your IRC client unable to ping server and think it is down.

Check if you have a firewall and if it blocks ICMP both ways.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help. Shame about the childish attitude.

Seems to me the problem is on the other side.
They set up the firewall to filter out ICMP packets
Try traceroute
Do you have the same problem if you use another server ?

OK so I connected to a different IRC server (irc.spotchat.org) in Konversation, and pinged it as well. Both fine. Waited a minute and as usual i lost contact in Konversation as I described above. When I pinged it though it still worked, despite Konversation saying I had lost the connection. I tried this for a couple of minutes and the ping still worked (no 'Packet Filtered' messages).

I also disabled my firewall completely (temporarily) and it made no difference to the original problem. I still get the 'Packet Filtered' messages from freenode, and lose contact in Konversation from both servers.

In this case, please, can you enable ANY available logs in Konversation, and check there, if will be anything about reason of disconnection.

Thanks.
