For serial communications you can use the console application minicom or a GUI application like gcomm
http://gcomm.sourceforge.net/

minicom is a command shipped with most linux distributions.
This is very similar to Hyperterm.

minicom direct serial connection

I tried to configure minicom to connect to cisco console port but it offers only a modem connection. How can I do a 'direct' connection port to port?

run "minicom -S" as root

change your port to /dev/ttyS0 - or whatever serial port you are using.

make sure to set 9600, no parity, 8, etc.

then save.

start minicom as user and go.

make sure you user has access to /dev/ttyS0. i slackware you have to chmod it

soule
