Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

i hope i'm not posting to much, but i wanna say thanks to all that helps, really want to get into linux.
i deleted all my config with the eth0 using the network device controler.
and started up the interent connection wizard and it see's the router, so i clicked that and hit forward, went to chose dhcp.
my windows xp and my linux connect fine, but after about 40 minutes the connect stopped and then after another 40 minutes my connection stopped all together, tried restarting router and cable box which worked the first time.
now after i deleted the config that i made with internet connection wizard it started working for the windows and it could connect. i redid the internet config wizard and now i'm back up and working fine. but i know it will stop in about 40 minutes.
anyone know why that would do that? is the linux and router getting confused on who is the dhcp or something? all my ip, gateway, dns info that my cable provider gave me is in the router. the linux is set to auto optain IP info using dhcp.
