If I ping Google, the IP is nothing like the one you show.

If I ping 209.85.153.105, there is no response.

What part of the world are you in?

In a terminal, try "ping www.google.com", and see what happens

Lightbulb

there was a mistake in the above query.
the messege displayed was
The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.google.com

ping result is:

Code:
root@root # ping www.google.com
connect: Network is unreachable

root@root # host www.google.com
Name: google.com
Address: 27.14.207.99

This makes no sense....
"Network not reachable" normally means you can't access anything---can you ping anything?

do other websites work? Does e-mail work?

Again: where are you located?
