anyone knows about the problem I've encountered when i trying to connect to remote host using rsh I received an error message like this:

"trying to login to 192.168.10.1...... connection refused"

what is this mean? Can i have a favor to give me a sufficient configuration to my server machine.

anyway im using REH Linux Enterprise 4 AS.

I know that most of the user use SSH for security reason but i need to use rsh because the important for me is that the file transfer are not encrypted. This is because i want to integrate rsync for synchronization and riverbed technology as connection optimizer to enhanced the synchronization of my remote backups.

I am also facing same problem on SUSE 10. But it I retry to do ssh after some time then ssh works.

Can anybody explain why this is happening?

I know this thread is old, but I'm having the same problem... essentially. We also have RedHat enterprise 4. We just installed the rsh-server package and added the two domains of each server (sending-receiving) to the hosts.equiv file.

After, we attempt an rsh command on the same server (loopback @ 127.0.0.1). connection refused on every attempt.

Is there something else that we need to setup?
