Connection problem

I have a couple services that when I try to connect to them, the connection on the box with the services shows that connection as being of state syn_recv and stays that way until the connection times out.

Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name

tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 21038/xinetd
tcp 0 0 <linux box>:ftp <client>:32773 SYN_RECV -

What is the SYN_RECV state and what would cause it not to move on to established if it is getting the initial packet.

What services are you trying to connect to?

It almost looks like your trying to send/receive a file via FTP. Perhaps this is an iptables/firewall/nat issue?

Regards,
Erik

Are you making this connection through a firewall?
Is the forewall performing nating?
