Connecting with samba

Hi,

As well as my Redhat 8 box my LAN also contains a Windows 2000 box used by other members of my family. I have successfully managed to connect using smbclient and/or mount but I want a quick way to connect using a icon on my kde desktop. As far as I can see there are two possible ways of doing this but I have been unable to get either to work.

1) Create a new URL using the smb:// protocol. When I tried this I was able to connect to the machine and see the shares but they contained no files.

2) Create a icon similar to the CD-ROM icon which would automatically mount the share in /mnt and then open in in Konqueror. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this.

I wish to do something similar, except I wish to just use the smb:// protocol in konqueror. I have the same problem with not seeing the shares.
I am considering writing a script or something that does the second part. If i do, ill post here and we'll see.

I know how to do the second way, so if you were wondering about tips, just write shell script that runs the mounting command to your share.

If anyone else has any clue to why i cant see files using the smb:// protocal in KDE 3.1, I still want info.

Thx,

The Admiral
