Connecting Ubuntu to Windows Domain

I am very new to linux,
I have installed Ubuntu desktop on a PC and am having difficulty connecting to a Windows 2003 Server as part of the domain. I can view the network and see the other computers on the domain and view their folders. I can see the server and its contents but cannot log on as part of the domain.
I have set up a new user on the server to logon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at this section of the official samba howto. If it seems a little over your head just back up a few sections and play around with smb.conf.

There's a lot of configuration options for samba, but you'll probably only need a small subset of those options. Play with it long enough and occationally reference the docs and you should be able to get it. I have a little bit of experience with this myself as, I'm sure, several other people around here do, so if you run into some specific trouble let us know.

Thanks for your reply.
This has given me a lot to get my head around, I will work through it. It looks complicated for a first time linux user. If I get stuck I hope you don't mind me looking for more info.
