connecting to Internet Problem+please help

i am using a Mandrake 9.1 machine connected to a LAN network using ethernet card . The address of the card is 192.168.10.84 .

While i can use the LinNeighbourhood for browsing local area machines and connecting to windows machine, i am unable to browse the internet .

the gateway for the LAN is 192.168.10.199 and proxy is 192.168.10.1 .

what should i do. i tried mandrake control center , entered the configurations when prompted but still not getting connected .

can anyone help me .

look for a file called :

/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1

This file contains all your network configuration, make sure all addy's are correct and restart your machine. The proxy info is only needed by your browser, so enter that in mozilla or netcrap (erm netscape) or whatever you use.

The rc.inet1 file is well commented, so do not be afraid young skywalker !!

There must be some major difference between slackware 9 and mandrake 9.1 then. I find it weird that they have changed the default file paths. Can you post up the contents of the internet file, may be similar to rc.inet1..

Red face Time to refresh this thread

Ok.

You are able to connect to all the machines on the 192.168.10. network (your LAN). Thus the problem must be with the box that connects your LAN to the internet.

Where is the box that connects to the internet ?
Is it a router ?

If it is the Mandrake 9.1 box, then there should be two network cards to configure.
