Angry Configuring two NIC card and two network

hi

kindly help me for conguration of two NIC cards and two network

I have installed linux fedora core 6. I want use as webserver and proxy server in same server.

one net card connected to my global static ip 210.212.205.X with netmask 255.255.255.240 gateway 210.212.205.x1

another card i configured local network ip 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 210.212.205.x1

after this i can ping only gateway ip 210.212.205.x1 and it will
show
[root@nianp ~]# ping 192.168.1.9
PING 192.168.1.9 (192.168.1.9) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=6 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=7 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=8 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=10 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.5 icmp_seq=11 Destination Host Unreachable

and i can browse internet also, but i can ping our local network ips like 192.168.1.X

i think this is problem with route setting

waiting for your suggestion

you can't have a gateway per nic, doesn't make sense... the internally facing nic won't have a gateway. as for why you can't ping that IP? should still work fine if all machines are there and happy. host unreachable means that it knows where the destination network is, and can get there (i.e. locally attached here) but the end machien itlsef doesn't exist...

what means can't have a gateway per nic. while configuring statis ip to eth0 we have give IP address, netmask address and gateway address. all machines are there and working file in LAN. if machines are attached to locally also showing host unreachable

this working in redhat 9 but not working fedora core 6
kinldy help me

as in that's not how networks work. a gateway is for the machine, not for each nic.

Network basics

Angadi,

A gateway is also known as the default route. This is the route the machine will take when it does not know where to go with it's network request.

If you configure two default routes, it will get confused. Where does the network request need to go? If you have two network interfaces in two different networks then choose one of the routers as your default gateway.
Put the gateway statement in the file /etc/sysconfig/network and not in one of the ifcfg files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

Looking at your post, you probably want 210.212.205.x1 as your gateway.
After reconfiguring the network cards and network, issue a "service network restart" command to restart the network.

Verify your default route with netstat -r. There should only be one default route (detination 0.0.0.0)
If you have more networks behind a router in the 192.168.1.0/24 network you will need to add static routes for those.
