trying to share files betw my win & linux computers (home network)
using the win98SE machine with no firewall & suse8.2 with samba / webmin
connected via linksys hub
when I click on network neighbourhood & linux I get the user name I have suggested in samba & either asks to enter password (if I have enabled passwords - it then doesn't recognise the password) or if password disabled then says on 98machine
"\\LINUX\NAME" is not accessible.
The share name was not found. Be sure you typed it correctly"
have tried changing from lower to upper case in the webmin page but same message
thanks
if I get this working............................
HI,
create user/password linux and create user profile in windows se with same user name and password. login to windows se with same user anme and pasword & try , it will connect to linux.
network neighbourhood shows linux machine
when I click on that I get the shared file that I created in webmin
and when I click on that I get the error message. appears not to accept the passsword even though it's same as what I entered in webmin. (could this be something to do with encryption settings?)
and how do I "see" the windows computers from the linux box?
typing smb in file manager no help
thanks. this is difficult. (crashing windows machines not helping)
