Configuring Network For Web Server

Hi,
I'm running Fedora Core 2 .

Anyway, I have an ADSL connection and my ISP has assigned me a static IP.

I have a Netgear DG632 setup as my DHCP server. I'm currently getting the internet fine on my home network with the DG632 assigning IP's on a 192.168.*.* range.

This is fine for getting the Internet, but I figure I'm not actually using my static IP yet.

What I need to know, is how to configure my ADSL modem so that when I get to the part where I install apache, I'll be able to host and serve web pages.

I have a couple of domains registered already as well, do I need to name my linux server specific to a domain as I've currently left it as localhost.

Thanks.

more than 15 views and no replies?

Do i have to do something like use my router for DHCP like it is, but do port forwarding to the linux server?

Do I need to change the name of my linux server from localhost to a domain that I have registered?

Whats the deal with DNS? Do I need to pay someone to point domains to my static IP then use Vhosts on apache to serve different domains? Can I setup DNS on my server to prevent me having to pay someone else and use my ISP's nameservers?

Am I on the right track with my understanding of how it all works?

what if I go to my domain registar, configure the name servers to point to dyndns.org, go to www.dyndns.org, setup a free staticDNS account to point to my static IP?

will that then allow me to serve web pages from my apache server or will I need to tell my modem router (Netgear DG632) to do something so the traffic goes to my linux box?

yeah. your domain record must point the static ip of modem. and u must tell your modem to forward http requests to your web server.

webserver : 192.168.0.10
modem static ip: 81.2.1.1
modem local ip: 192.168.0.1

internet -- 81.2.1.1 (modem) 192.168.0.1 -- web server 192.168.0.10

the ip of your domain is 81.2.1.1
modem forwards "tcp 80" port to 192.168.0.10.

If you go to my site , which is an ADSL Internet server by the way, I have a fair amount of detail and links about how you can go about this as I did it fairly recently.
Hope the info helps.
