try to find the gzopen library and install that first.

also

libpcap >= 0.8.1
libnet >= 1.1.2.1
libpthread
zlib

verify these files

What distro are you trying to install? Chances are you have a preconfigured ettercap binary available for your distro.

On another note, happy birthday kstan!

i have solved that problem . now it is showing the following error.................

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for GTK_CFLAGS...
checking for GTK_LIBS...
configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0 pango >= 1.0 atk >= 1.0) were not met.
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively you may set the GTK_CFLAGS and GTK_LIBS environment variables
to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for
more details.

what distro are you running?

you should verify that you have the version listed in the error then it should continue

seems troublesome, recommend you to download ettercap for your own distro. if u use ubuntu/debian, type this command
sudo apt-get install ettercap-gtk

Good luck.

Ks

I got by this problem by insalling gtkmm2-devel.

I have no idea what related package actually took care of the problem.

Im using opensuse 10.2 and smart is my package manager.
