configure proxy

Hi!
my sys admin has setup a temporary proxy. I'm no longer able to access the net through my terminal , the proxy settings for WINDOZE are:

192.168.1.254
port#: 3128

I use Mandrake 8.1, I have configured the proxy through KDE Control Centre. However it doesn't seem to work, Is this the only way to fix it? would netconf or other tools help?

thanx,
Abhi.

Your server runs some WinXX or Linux?
Anyway, you can try Dante to set a proxy client. I did so at my last job (unfortunately in my last day at work :( ). The compiling worked fine, but I had not the time to configure it.
In my case the server ran WinNT 4.0 SP6 with MSProxy 2.0 and my station Mandrake 8.1 (default installation).
Good luck.
