configure my router

Hi i want to configure my router using my Linux distro. I know how to configure it from Windows through the HyperTerminal. One guy told me that i muse use the minicom program in helping me communicate my router.
Firstly i run minicom-s and i changed to /dev/Stty0 and bps :9600, settings that i used in the past in the hyperterminal. The problem is that minicom starts but after the first screen, stops responding to the keyboard keys. The status to the bottom right stays to offline and then i need to restart the pc because does not respond to control+c signal or something else. Any good suggestion for this work may help...

Autospy.....you do that http:// stuff for those cheapo routers you get

He is most likely trying to configure a cisco or some other type of router. These routers have a special port on them called 'console' which uses a cat-5 roll-over cable which is then connected to a db-9 connector which plugs into the serial port on your computer. Hyperterminal is a windows terminal emulation program.

What you are going to need is just another terminal emulation program

I do this alot and he is correct, he needs to do it from the console port first before he can even do anything else. Because he has to atleast assign ip address to his e0 port or whatever and then enable vty on them so he can telnet in without have to to go through the console port again, atleast for awhile
