Hi, I am a fairly newbie to Linux, so I was not sure whether to post this question in this or the Newbie forum. Decided on networking as this is networking related.
I am currently running an application on a specific release of Ubuntu Server - 12.04.2 (lsb_release -a shows 'Prercise'). The hardware server has 2 x on-board dual-port NICs.
The interfaces are configured with IPv4. I need to configure IPv6 addressing on one port only, the application will be extended to support IPv4 and IPv6.
I have sussed out how to manually add an IPv6 address to the interface. If I use ifconfig, or just ip commands I can list the interface and see the IPv6 I have added to it (of course the IPv6 is a global scope IP).
However I try to add this to the /etc/network/interfaces file, but on restart the interface is not configured with the IPv6 address, just with the IPv4 as usual. My search on the net brings up information and I know I add the IPv6 manually correctly, and it seems I have edited the interfaces correctly, but still I do not get the IPv6 auto configured on the interface.
For what it is worth:
- IPv6 address (just an example) 2a03:dd00:801:f803::101
- Interface on which this is required (example): eth2
So for example, in my interfaces file I have the following stanza for device eth2 (I have used dummy IPs for illustration purposes:
This is resolved. Not entirely sure how, but I had to make other changes to the 'interfaces' file - this had three interfaces defined, but all three had a GW defined, each interface being on a different subnet.
To solve that problem I left my default route on my interface eth0, then added 'up route add ...' lines to the stanzas for interfaces eth1 and eth2, adding specific routes. When I restarted the services, I solved my default route issue but also my IPv6 address is configured on the interface, as expected - incidentally the IPv6 address was configured in interface eth2.
So, the issue is resolved, seems to have resolved itself.
