if you're going into a cygwin environment, i think you can just use the useradd tool to add a user.

samba / smbmount still looks like the better option by a long way, and i'm pretty sure you're just not aware of how to use it effectively, it's exactly what you want, no question. just read up on it and brish up on your scripting skills.

hey i used pscp as suggested earlier i could actually copy the files from linux to windows... the problem was the .bashrc file on my linux machine were running some commands whose o/p was not expected to pscp and hence it was giving Expected control record protocol error... so i commented some commands from the.bashrc file and pscp is now successfully copying files from Linux to Windows... thanks a ton ppl for your help...
