cnames or dns prob?

I just installed fedora core 2. DNS seems kind of slow and some sites do not resolve with a www . in front of them.

The sites work fine from other networks using differnt machines. It used to work fine under XP and my XP laptop still resolves them fine from here as well elimnating my provider as a problem.

Could something be up w/ my DNS or cnames?

I am connecting to a router that connects to my cable modem to access the internet.

Thanks

CNAMEs are just one type of DNS resource record, so they aren't something different than a DNS record.

I've seen several other posts recently about slow DNS resolution on Linux. I forget what the exact solution was, but I seem to recall it involved tweaking one of the kernel variables.

Try searching this forum (use the search button up near the top, on the right) and look for "dns slow resolve" or something similar. You should find the previous answer.
