change network settings

I installed fedora 4 as a server. I have a book on fedora 4 and it said to use ifconfig or something to change the ip, but I guess that was only a change for the session. I remember there being a config file for it, but I can't remember where. how do I change an ip address for a server?

my next project is getting an ntfs mount set up and samba sharing it.
