Centralized login server

I have created a network of about 4 linux machines. What do I have to setup so that all machines use one server to verify login? (so that if I have a login on pc1, when I go to pc2 and use the same credentials it recognizes the user account)?

I realize this is probably a really simple issue, I just don't know what it is that I have to set up to do this. Plus, is this a best practice? If not what would you recommend for centralizing login accounts in a linux network?

thanks in advance,
jpbarto

the silence is beginning to make me think that perhaps such a thing is not possible?
