can't find eth2 device

Hey all

I have just recompiled my kernel and my computer, which has the following ethernet cards, no longer recognises one of my card.

The network cards are:
eth0 wireless card
eth1 wired network card
eth2 wired network card

After the recompile, eth2 is no longer working. lsmod says that it is using the module, but when i "ifconfig eth2 up" it tell me that the device is not there.

Where do I look for the device and tell the cmputer that it DOES exist and that the computer is just being stupid!?

You may want to try ifconfig -a eth2 and see what that does for you. See ifconfig --help for full syntax and man 8 ifconfig for more than you ever wanted to know about it. It may have just lost it and needs to be tiold it is there.

you may need a profile set up for the interface for ifup and ifdown to work.

#/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2

file should read:

DEVICE=eth2
BOOTPROTO="dhcp,static'
ONBOOT=yes

you would also need

IPADDR=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
NETMASK=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

if you were set to a static IP

now "ifup eth2" and 'ifdown eth2" should work

Hey,

SUSE is slightly different with the /etc/sysconfig/ . the directory i was looking for was /etc/sysconfig/network/ This has the file I was looking for.

The ifcgf-eth2 file looks like this:

BOOTPROTO='static'
BROADCAST='172.24.15.239'
IPADDR='172.24.15.229'
MTU=''
NETMASK='255.255.255.240'
NETWORK='172.24.15.224'
REMOTE_IPADDR=''
STARTMODE='onboot'
UNIQUE='VeW7.bM7cYpCLfi8'
WIRELESS='no'

Even when I added "DEVICE" into this, it didn't work.

any other suggestions?
