can't access internet in fedora 10

recently I installed fedora 10 in my system but it doesn't allow me to access to the internet. Every time I start Firefox it shows that Firefox can't connect to the server. I unchecked the work offline then also tried to, but failed. In network I changed my settings & given my ip address default gateway DNS1 DNS2 etc etc...But don't know why the default gateway value automatically selected as a subnetmask value. If I change it & saved it then also it didn't save. Like
ip add:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
subnetmask:uuu.uuu.uuu.uuu
default gateway:vvv.vvv.vvv.vvv

but after apply ok
both values of subnetmask & default gateway are:vvv.vvv.vvv.vvv

I using fedora 10 & any help regarding this 'd be much more helpful.
I also deactivate network manager as I use a broadband service with static ip address. I choose to use network service.

At a root console /sbin/ifconfig will tell you your ip address. Also man ifconfig will give you details on setting it with in console. Please try to ping google.com. Also please try ping 74.125.67.100. Turning off network manager turns off control from the gui to handle your network. You can set a static ip but you need network manager to do it with a gui.

More info about your configuration

Could you provide more info about your hardware? Should we assume it is a wired network? Is a router involved? You mentioned difficulty connecting to a server?
