gui configuration, i have absolutely no idea from command prompt.

hmm ok.. so how do i do it in GUI mode?

btw i can ping servers on the command prompt...

gui = graphical user interface..

look under the control panel area, anything about your dialup connection settings.

So, lets get the configs
/etc/resolv.conf contains
search localdomain
nameserver isp.dns.ip.addy
nameserver isp.dns.ip.addy1
now /etc/host.conf contains these lines
order hosts, bind
multi on
If you can't resolve names that means the DNS information isn't available or configured improperly. Try gives us some hints on the above mentioned files.

well thats just about those files..

btw i only got 1 comp.

so what should i do now?
should i edit those files to be like you posted?

No, they look OK.

I forgot to write one thing about route. You need to be root to use this commend. So, run
su
(enter root password when asked)
