Cannot see past ADSL Router

Hi, I've just installed Redhat 9 which now dual boots with Windows 2000 on this machine. In Windows 2000 the machine silently connects to the internet via an ethernet connection to my ADSL router. The exact same hardware in Redhat 9 can't see the internet for some reason, though it can see the router. I'm new to Linux and so I tried something suggested in a book I bought which was:

route add default gw 10.0.0.2

I got an error message back which said file already exists.

Can someone tell me how to correct my problem?

read the network/dsl howto at www.tldp.org
route -n will give you your current routing.
type "man <command>" to get manual/usage-pages.

post again if you have problems after reading some of these documents.

sl mritch.

The likely cause is that you have not specified the DNS addresses supplied by your ISP in /etc/resolv.conf. Your system needs to know where to send requests for internet access and these are the addresses it needs.

Wouldn't have thought I needed to, Gentoo never had that problem.
