Unhappy Cannot ping my gateway


I am trying to set up Linux on my Fujitsu s6010 Lifebook and I cannot get networking to work. I tried Fedora yesterday, and I am trying Gentoo today. I have tried static IP and DHCP. I know that the numbers are correct, because they worked with Windows XP 2 days ago on the same computer.

I can ping 127.0.0.1 and I can ping 128.252.223.165 (my IP) but I cannot ping the gateway by IP nor can I ping anything outside.

Please help.

What does your routing table look like:

Try setting your broadcast to:
128.252.223.255

I did

ifconfig eth0 128.252.223.165 broadcast 128.252.223.255 netmask 255.255.255.0

When I try to ping 128.252.223.254 it still says Destiantion Host Unreachable
